Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

Throughout my school age years, I spent 8 years in gymnastics, as well as trying my hand in volleyball, dance, basketball, cross country and track. I have always enjoyed sports and being active, and continued my active life style into college. I worked out at my college gym whenever I had time, but for the most part always ran or did workout videos at home. I always thought I was getting a good workout in…that is until I met Jenni Niemann in November 2010!

One class was all it took for me to be hooked, and I’ve pretty much been addicted ever since! Although I had always been active, I had never done much that involved weights, and honestly had never heard of many of the lifts that now feel like second nature. That was at another gym, and lasted about 6 months, until the dream of Farmgirlfit started taking shape. For a few months in there, we actually didn’t have a gym and would meet at different parks around Spokane for our weekly workouts!

Farmgirlfit opened in October 2011 and I have been a dedicated member ever since! You can ask my husband…I tend to get very cranky if I am not able to make it to the Grind. ;)

What has been your greatest fitness/performance accomplishment so far?

I would have to say that my greatest fitness/performance accomplishment thus far would have to be the simple act of signing up for and competing in different competitions throughout the years. This picture [below] is from the first one I did about a year after FGF opened. I tend to be a more quiet and reserved person, and I am not one who likes to draw attention to myself. Farmgirlfit has most definitely given me more confidence in myself and has made me love me for who I am.

What are your next health and fitness goals?

Before I became pregnant with my first child, I was the healthiest and strongest I had ever been. I now have a 1 and 2 yr old and am working on accepting my body for what it is now instead of dwelling on what it used to be. My goals include increasing my endurance and strength all while replacing my body with more lean muscle mass.

Favorite exercise at FGF is? Least favorite?

Where do I begin?! I have so many favorites…toes to bar, box jumps, pull-ups, clean and jerks, KB snatches, double unders…pretty much everything except Front Squats.

I would be thrilled if I the words FRONT SQUATS never showed up on the white board again.

Favorite workout song?

Songs with a good beat that I can sing along to in my head and make it a little bit easier to push through the tougher/longer Grinds!

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

I have many favorite things about Farmgirlfit. All the members and coaches are so encouraging, empowering and strong, and it makes for such a fun and unique environment not found anywhere else. I love the fact that there are different levels to every workout to allow each woman to adjust to her ability. Regardless of whether you are squatting 15lbs or 200lbs, you are inspiring someone in class, and you will always have someone encouraging you and cheering you on! I walk out of Farmgirlfit feeling like I can take on the world…or at least survive the day with my adorable little monsters. :)

How has the rest of your life been influenced by Farmgirlfit?

Farmgirlfit has been such a big part of my life for so long now that I really couldn’t imagine life without it! I am now much more aware of my body, and what I eat to fuel my body as well as what activities I can do outside of the gym to continue my health and fitness.

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

I am fortunate that I work a job where I can create my own schedule, allowing me to basically be home with my 2 children full time! My husband and I love backpacking and have a yearly trip that we take with friends. I also enjoy snowboarding, wakeboarding, camping, traveling to new places and all things music!  Currently we do not have much family time due to my husband’s busy work schedule, so we try to spend time doing different activities with the kids when time allows.

Words that inspire me?

I recently came across this statement: “Move to discover what your body is capable of, not to change how it looks.” I couldn’t agree more, and am reminding myself of this daily!

Guilty pleasure:

Anything chocolate covered…I lose all self-control!

Any advice for new members or your fellow farmgirls?

For the new or potential members wondering if FGF is right for you, just come TRY IT! I promise you won’t regret it! The members and coaches are the most amazing women I have ever met. One foot inside the purple walls and you will never turn back!
