Krista, a long-time runner inspired by her parents to stay active, is a new mom herself, committed to getting her “pre-baby body” back. Besides eating well, The Grind, and running, she’s tried to increase her overall activity level: walks, hikes, snowshoeing, etc.

Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

I ran cross-country in high school and running continued to be my main/only form of exercise throughout college and shortly after. After taking a few strength classes at the YMCA and doing some personal training, I decided I wanted to check out CrossFit. After about 6 months at a local “box,” I decided to check out Farmgirlfit. I was hooked!

What has been your greatest fitness/performance accomplishment so far?

Completing Bloomsday in under 1 hour, and two half marathons in less than 2 hours.

Who/what inspires you to be fit?

My parents have always been in amazing shape and they have motivated me to be active myself. My husband is always wanting to tackle outdoor adventures and his passions inspire me to explore and adventure as well.

What are your next health and fitness goals?

Get back to my pre-baby body, so cliche, I know, but it’s true. Continue to make healthy eating and exercise a priority in my life.

Favorite exercise at FGF is:

Squats, all kinds, and Kettlebell Swings.

Least favorite exercise at FGF is:

Pull-ups!

Favorite workout song?

Shipping Up to Boston by Dropkick Murphys always makes me dig a little deeper on runs when I’m starting to slow my pace or just want to be done.

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

The sense of support and community created among the women. The type-A in me loves how clean and organized everything is, too! Also, I tend to not pay much attention to mirrors in general, but I seem to like the way I look in the FGF mirrors more than any others I’ve encountered. Maybe it’s magical glass, but more likely it’s the healthy environment and knowledge that I’m there working to improve myself that make the difference.

How have you integrated the Farmgirlfit mission outside of the gym?

Farmgirlfit emphasizes fitness as a lifestyle—being fit for the sake of living a happy healthy life. Not all fitness activities happen under the purple beams. I try to remember that while it’s important to get in high intensity workouts, like The Grind or good runs, it’s equally important to incorporate overall activity, in small ways, into my daily life. Walks, hikes, snowshoeing, playing outside are all good ways to get in some extra activity.

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

I spend a lot of my time baking, crafting, reading and cooking. Home is my happy place! I do love to get outside as well, and go for walks or hikes with the babe and dog as often as possible….though truthfully, I’m a big baby when it comes to bad weather.

As a kid I dreamt I would grow up to be:

Vanna White

You might not know this about me:

I used to own South Perry Pizza with my family.

Guilty pleasure:

Strawberry Poptarts

Team I’m always rooting for:

Ugh, all my husband’s Chicago teams...who usually lose.

My trademark dance move:

Oh, I DO NOT dance.

Any advice for new members or your fellow farmgirls?

It’s not as scary as it seems. Get in there, do what you can and give it your best effort. Also, no one else is paying attention to or judging your workout, everyone is too wrapped up in trying to survive their own.
