“My fitness journey has turned upside down with the FGF workout format, coaching, and supportive atmosphere! I never knew I could feel and be as strong as I am now!”

Occupation:

Civil Engineer

Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

I’d see fit gals head into the gym every morning when I dropped my dog off at daycare next door, but wasn’t sure what it was all about until my sister-in-law, (Chandra Turner) invited me for a class and I got hooked! I started with just a punch card, then 3-days/week, and one morning I came in not realizing I’d already used my classes for the month (oops!)…and decided it was time to go Unlimited 😊

If you could tell your Farmgirlfit story in 100 words or fewer, how would it read?

In the past, my exercise routine had been running and cycling; I used weights in the gym on and off since college but didn’t enjoy it much because it was unstructured (and I didn’t know what I was doing!). My fitness journey has turned upside down with the FGF workout format, coaching, and supportive atmosphere! I never knew I could feel and be as strong as I am now!

What has been your greatest fitness/performance accomplishment so far?

I have PR’d twice while pregnant! 1,000m row and deadlift. I know I’ll have a hill to climb and get back post-baby, but I am looking forward to making and hitting new goals.

What are your next health and fitness goals?

Deadlift my body weight. Someday run a marathon.

Who/what inspires you to be fit?

Feeling good in my skin and doing what I can to make sure I can stay active as I age.

Favorite exercise at FGF is? Least favorite?

Favorite: Deadlifts and AMRAPs (as Coach Sav says, “starting and ending as a family”) Least favorite: Burpees

Favorite workout song?

Savage – Megan Thee Stallion

When the Grind is kicking my butt, I’m thinking…

Mental math distractions to figure out how much time/reps I have left or the pace I need to keep to finish…by the time I decide on an equation the worst is usually over! My engineer brain is hard to turn off sometimes!

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

Surrounding myself with strong women – body, mind, and soul! The environment is open, encouraging, and non-judgmental; these are all important at any stage in your fitness journey. It is also inspiring to work out with women who are pregnant, new moms, and those who’ve celebrated many birthdays, that still show up, give it their all, and more often than not, get me thinking “if they can do it, you can level up, too!”

How has the rest of your life been influenced/impacted by Farmgirlfit?

I love telling others about how awesome FGF is (and that they should try it, too!) because it has been a blessing for me in countless ways! I have renewed accountability to myself to show up knowing I’ll leave sweaty, with a smile, and more often than not, have learned something new to deepen a friendship. I also love finding Farmgirls around seemingly every corner I turn – the community piece is not something I expected (or have experienced) at any gym before! I grin every time I see the little purple comb logo on a car or water bottle when I am out.

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

I love spending summer weekends camping or backpacking with my husband and our hound dog – our favorites are in Montana or the Panhandle (as long as I can bring my fly rod!). When we’re not off the grid, you’ll find me getting my hands dirty in our garden or hanging out with our flock of diva chickens. My hand is the first up for any chance I can to be around horses and I have done some cool pack trips in the Wind Rivers and The Bob. Indoors: I make a goal each year to read the same number of books as my age – always looking for new recs! And cooking new recipes that follow the seasons is another favorite pastime.

My happy place is:

The Methow Valley

As a kid I dreamt I would grow up to be:

Black Beauty (yes, the horse)

My favorite holiday:

Summer solstice – just a couple more months.

Guilty pleasure:

Ben & Jerrys Phish Food

My favorite post workout meal:

Breakfast burrito – you’ll usually catch me at the 6:30am class.

My healthy indulgence:

Apples & cheddar

You might not know this about me:

2019 was a big year for me – my husband and I quit our jobs in Seattle, moved home to Spokane, took 3 months off to roadtrip 12,000+ miles, visiting 30 National Parks (also slept outside 30 nights that year!), then started new jobs, got hitched, bought a house, and got a dog, all before we turned 30 in December!

Any advice for new members or your fellow Farmgirls?

The first 6-12 months of regular grinds were the most empowering! My advice is to keep track of your lifts/times once you commit to being a regular because the progress you will make is super motivating (and addicting!).

Words that inspire me?

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” -Maya Angelou
