Name and age: Betsy Clevenger, 30

Occupation: Household Engineer of Amelia and Wyatt Clevenger Incorporated

Tell us about your fitness journey.

I have always been active but far from an athlete, usually gravitating towards the elliptical or treadmill, at least before Farmgirlfit.  I always feel better about myself after I workout, which keeps me motivated.  I am currently trying to “get my body back” after having my twins 15 months ago, and I have a goal to one day run a half marathon.

If you could tell your Farmgirlfit story in 100 words or less, how would it read?

I had heard about Farmgirlfit and was intrigued.  I wanted to join, but thought I could just do my old standard elliptical or treadmill.  I stuck it out for a while, but eventually got bored and decided I needed something different and better. I did my first workout six weeks after having my twins.  I was the slowest and least coordinated person but I finished the workout. I felt awesome, accomplished and proud of myself, and immediately became a member.

What has been your greatest fitness (performance) accomplishment so far? Do you have a performance goal?

Being able to run without walking or stopping to rest. I may be the slowest runner ever but I am so proud of myself! My goal is to become a better runner and not be the last one running. Search parties have almost been sent out when I run!

How has FGF helped you become more healthy / When it comes to your health, what goals do you have?

Farmgirlfit has helped me realize that I need to eat food that fuels me and allows me to run after my twins all day!  It has made me want to eat more vegetables and fruit and less processed food. My goals for my health are to continue working out and eating better, so I can live a full life with my family.

My favorite exercise at FGF is:

Running is my favorite actually, which I never thought I would say. I might keep the pace of a turtle, but I enjoy it, and am motivated to keep getting better!

My least favorite exercise at FGF is:

Box jumps! I have a fear of hurting my shins, even though I know I probably won’t. I just can’t get myself up! I am working on it though, one step at time.

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

How everyone is so motivating and sincerely supportive. Even as the last one to finish, there is ALWAYS someone encouraging me to keep going or push harder, and finish strong!

How have you integrated the Farmgirlfit mission outside of the gym?

Farmgirlfit has really become part of my life.  Besides eating better, as I mentioned before, I also started a Couch-to-10K app to help improve my running both at Farmgirlfit, and towards eventually doing that half marathon.  On a recent girls weekend, I even went hiking just to get a workout in.

When you’re not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

I am stay at home mom to my little boy and little girl, and am excited to start hiking with my husband and our children so we can explore and experience the outdoors of Spokane in the summer!  I am also a member of the Junior League of Spokane and love being involved in the community.

Any advice for new members, or your fellow Farmgirls?

New members: Just do your best during the Grind. It doesn’t matter if you finish last. All that matters is that you enjoy yourself and get an awesome workout in. Fellow farmgirls: Thank you for encouraging me throughout my journey to get in shape. I would be on the floor complaining about burpees without your motivation.  Ok, I might do that anyways, but I will finish them!
