“Farmgirlfit is one of the best things I have done for myself…It’s a part of who I am. I’m addicted. I love seeing the slow and steady progress I’m making. I love seeing new muscle definition. It has helped me increase my speed and endurance and just all around fitness. I am doing things I had no idea I was capable of!”

Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

Growing up I was always active with swimming, drill team, tumbling, cheerleading and dance. After high school I kind of fell off the wagon and would hit a kick boxing class here and there or do a TaeBo video, but I was not very consistent with working out. In grad school, I started to get a little more focused on finding something I could do to be active. I again tried the body pump classes, yoga, some running, etc.

I was pretty off and on until I started running with some co-workers at lunch. I can still remember feeling so pumped when I ran my first 3 miles without stopping! I naïvely ran my first Bloomsday pregnant and a marathon a year later. Running was something I started to enjoy and was able to keep doing. I changed jobs in 2011 and found new running buddies at work. I enjoyed seeing my speed and endurance improve, but was also looking for more. I wanted to workout more than a few times a week, but I didn’t want to run every day! I convinced my dear brave friend Gina to try FGF with me. That was a little over 4 years ago, and I haven’t looked back since!

Farmgirlfit is one of the best things I have done for myself! I started going twice a week in the mornings, back when the “crazy” 5:30am class was only offered twice a week. As they added days, I upped my membership. I now go three days a week and LOVE it. It’s a part of who I am. I’m addicted. I love seeing the slow and steady progress I’m making. I love seeing new muscle definition. It has helped me increase my speed and endurance and just all around fitness. I am doing things I had no idea I was capable of!

What has been your greatest fitness/performance accomplishment so far?

I think this is always changing, right now, I would say, being able to clean and jerk more than my body weight. Every time you do something you didn’t think you could, is a major accomplishment!

What are your next health and fitness goals?

I am planning to run my second full marathon in July. I am certain this will be a bit faster than the first, and more importantly, I think will just feel so much better than it did the first time.

After that, I am determined to do my first sprint-tri. I just got a road bike last summer, so I have lots to learn, but I know I have some great FGF ladies that will help!

Who/what inspires you to be fit?

My kids and those 90 year old marathon runners. :)

Favorite exercise at FGF is? Least favorite?

Favorite: I am not sure I have one, I love the crazy workouts where you are doing a little bit of everything all at once!  I enjoy pull ups, HSPU, squats…

Least: I would have to say, deadlifts for sure. I have yet to figure out how to master these and use my back side…

Favorite workout song?

Lose Yourself by Eminem – I never listen to this kind of music, but for some reason it totally pumps me up! This song helped me run my very first mile!

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

Well no surprise here, the PEOPLE! This includes all the amazing coaches! It is insane how this gym has become a sisterhood of women who all want to be there for each other and better themselves. It is so much more than an hour in the gym. They are always thinking outside the box for ways to approach fitness and nutrition as a whole. This encourages us to try something new, make new friends, and stay connected and active outside the gym.

Do you have a funny Farmgirlfit story?

When I first started, I was in awe at the things some of these ladies were doing. My friend Gina and I affectionately referred to Savannah C. as “stud girl” for probably the first year. We would get to work after class and say, “holy cow did you see what stud girl did today” how much weight she lifted, or she was doing a million pull-ups in a row! You never know who is watching or who you are inspiring ;-)

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

I am pretty busy being a wife, a mother, and working full time. As a family, we try to stay active and enjoy getting outside. I also really enjoy spending time with my friends and family. With summer here, we’ll do some traveling, and hopefully lots of weekends in the sun, playing yard games and *maybe* enjoying a cocktail! :-)

Words that inspire me?

“Comparison is the thief of joy!”  It is so easy to look around the gym, work, motherhood, wherever, and find someone who appears to have it easier than you, or doing better than you, etc. When I find myself in the place, I just tell myself, “Don’t go there, you are beyond blessed with all that you have…ENJOY IT!”

Guilty pleasure:

Sugar for sure!! I love it all – licorice, swedish fish, ice cream, dark chocolate. I think I’d need to be admitted, to kick this habit! Beer too, but that is just a good healthy carb right?!? ;-)

My healthy indulgence:

I am not sure it’s an indulgence, but my husband makes the best grilled broccoli and steak!

Any advice for new members or your fellow farmgirls?

Meet a new friend and connect outside the gym, motivate each other to show up for class.  FGF has made being consistent so easy. Even though the morning faces have changed since I first started, there is always an amazing group of inspiring women who will kindly call you out when you don’t show up. I don’t have to plan a workout or try to think of things to do, I simply show up and get it done. It’s always different and challenging, some days you get to PR, some days you are just glad to finish, but I NEVER regret going!
