Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

I have always loved running, biking, swimming, hiking, but was starting to get knee and foot injuries. I realized I was giving my heart muscle a really good workout, but my other muscles needed a chance to get strong too, so I thought I would give FGF a try...not really having any idea of what I was getting myself into!! My knees aren’t sore anymore and my foot feels like it’s getting better, plus my heart is definitely still getting it’s workout!

What has been your greatest fitness/performance accomplishment so far?

I have gotten so much stronger!! I am lifting weights that 12 months ago I never would have been able to. I am also so much more confident doing box jumps! I think my most favorite accomplishment though has been the friends I have encouraged to join...Char, Mary Jo, Sandy, Krista and Kelly (who now works out at the Spokane FGF)!

What are your next health and fitness goals?

My Be Present goals are to perform 10 tricep push-ups on my toes in a row, to work out 3-4 times per week at FGF and attend or do yoga at home once per week. And also to get 8 hours of sleep at least 5 nights per week.

Who/what inspires you to be fit?

I have prediabetes, and I have learned that the more muscle I have the better my body is at keeping my blood sugar levels normal. I decided that I would be proactive with my health and do what I can to not develop type 2 diabetes. As well, I had my babies in my mid to late 30’s, and promised myself I would always be able to keep up with them!! I hope I am a good role model for them for what good health looks like.

Favorite exercise at FGF is:

Wall balls, power cleans, running and I’m learning to love squats as I get better at them.

Least favorite exercise at FGF is:

The clean and jerk and overhead squats...something about lifting heavy weights overhead while squatting freaks me out!

Favorite workout song?

I don’t have a favorite, if the music is loud and we are working hard, I love them all!

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

Definitely the coaches and the sisterhood we have formed. I love how supportive it is and how we as women are getting stronger, healthier and fitter together, in a happy and fun environment.

How have you integrated the Farmgirlfit mission outside of the gym?

My kids come with me often to the gym, and love to swing on the ropes or use the rings after we are done working out. At home, we now have a pull-up bar, a band, a foam roller and I think we might be getting a set of rings this Christmas...I love inspiring my kids to get stronger! I have also talked to my patients about the benefits of weightlifting for injury prevention.

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

Always striving for balance! I am blessed to have a career that I love. I think I was born to be a nurse, and being a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is a challenging and rewarding job. Everyday is different! When I’m not at work, or at FGF, I love spending time with my 2 kids who are now 8 and 10 years old and my husband of 12 years. In the summertime, we are outside as much as possible. Nature revives me. We love to camp, travel, and swim. In the winter, we ski as much as we can...praying for snow!

You might not know this about me:

I’m a Leap Year Baby! I turn 11 (actually 44) in 2016, I’m Canadian and I learned to juggle last year!

Any advice for new members or your fellow farmgirls?

Give FGF a chance!! It is the best place! I remember being so sore after my first few workouts, I could only go twice per week because I was so sore!! With the support of the coaches and the variety of workouts, you will get stronger and recover quicker from the workouts. Don’t be afraid to jump in on a FGF challenge too! They make your workouts fun with a purpose!
