Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

Nursing school really opened my mind to a different perspective of health. I realized that if you don't have your health, you don't have anything. I was never extremely sick, but I knew if I didn't start making changes, the blessings of youth would eventually wear off and I would be faced with my life’s choices. I started working on my nutrition, changed my view on food and began to do exercise that I enjoyed. Now, living a healthy lifestyle is my passion.

I came to Farmgirfit through a women’s group called SheJumps. I went to an event and won a free month pass. Before FGF, I never had an interest in lifting weights or going to a gym. But after only a few classes I knew FGF was different and I LOVE it! FGF is amazing in so many ways. I am challenged and encouraged every time I walk in the door. I had no expectations when I first came to FGF, but if I ever move away FGF has set the standard by which I will compare any other gym, and I know they just won’t match up.

What has been your greatest accomplishment so far?

So far my greatest fitness accomplishment has been changing the way I view fitness and exercise. Getting into a new space mentally and recognizing I am capable of anything I put my mind to!

What are your next health and fitness goals?

To climb a mountain at the end of May this year! Mt. Athabasca to be precise.

Words that inspire me?

Two quotes, both with a similar message:

"Remember life is a journey. If you got everything you wanted all at once there'd be no point to living. Enjoy the ride, and in the end you'll see these ‘setbacks’ as giant leaps forward, only you couldn't see the bigger picture in the moment. Remain calm, all is within reach; stay true to your path and you will surely find the treasure you seek." – Jackson Kiddard

"Mirror mirror on the wall, I'll always get up after I fall. And whether I run, walk or have to crawl, I'll set my goals and achieve them all." – Chris Butler

Favorite exercise at FGF? Least favorite?

I really enjoy everything we do … crazy I know, but for the sake of making a decision I will say that plate pushes are my least favorite and anything with the bar is my favorite! I really love the complexes that combine a few different movements, like the squat clean thruster (Help, is this what it is called??? LOL)

Favorite workout song?

At the moment, Make My Day {instrumental} by Phlex

When the Grind is kicking my butt, I’m thinking…

"This is temporary" and “I need to drink more water!"

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is the super positive atmosphere, the perspective that working out should be fun and enjoyable, the rad-tastic coaches and loud music!!

How has the rest of your life been impacted by Farmgirlfit?

FGF has made my other hobbies even more enjoyable! I have the strength and stamina to do just about anything, and enjoy it even more. I am able to be more present because my fitness level has increased and doesn't distract me from being in the moment.

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

Outside of FGF I try to get outside and play as much as possible! Backpacking, snowboarding, mountain biking, and recently getting into mountaineering. During the summer I try to garden and spend a lot of time working on my house.

My happy place is:

Hiking into the wilderness or riding fast downhill on my mountain bike!

You might not know this about me:

I am a United States Navy Veteran 2002-2007

Guilty pleasure:

Kettle chips (organic of course)

Any advice for new members or your fellow farmgirls?

Advice for newbies would be take it slow and realize that health/fitness is a lifestyle…there is no quick fix to feel better about yourself whether it be mentally, physically or emotionally. Enjoy the process of gaining strength through technique and persistence. When your motivation runs out your habits will prevail. Build solid healthy habits and watch yourself become happier, and stronger! Also, eat your veggies!!! :)
