Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

I struggled for years with my health and weight. I was trying gym after gym and I wasn’t seeing any changes.  I was starving myself trying to keep my macros in check, but was just starving day after day. Frustrated and ready to throw in the towel for the umpteenth time, my brother introduced me to CrossFit in Feb 2015.  I was hooked!!!  A few months later I moved to ID and was on the lookout for a new gym. I drove by FGF regularly. I'd heard it was similar to CrossFit, but not the same thing, but since I was so new to the style of workout, I was too intimidated to walk in. I felt like I’d be laughed at for thinking I could be one of those fit girls!  In Dec 2016, (a whole year and a half after moving to ID!!!!) I finally got the courage to walk in and check it out. I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere, and with Coach Mary! :)  I knew it was time to dive in with both feet and give it a whirl!

If you could tell your Farmgirlfit story in 100 words or fewer, how would it read?

We are all at different levels, and different time periods in our life. Farmgirlfit does not discriminate. There is room for all of us!!  Some days I do Level 1, and get my booty handed to me! The next day I may be at Level 4. No matter what, I leave knowing that I DID IT!! And I did it to the best of my ability at that time.  I love that it doesn’t matter what level I’m at in a given Grind, I still get the same encouragement and support of everyone there! My only regret is I wasted so much time thinking I didn’t belong there.

Who/what inspires you to be fit?

My kids. I grew up very unhealthy, and I want my kids to see that health/fitness is a lifestyle, not a fad.

What has been your greatest fitness/performance accomplishment so far?

There are several things I’m proud that I’ve accomplished in the last 10 months at FGF.  I FINALLY learned how to kip and I’m able to do pull-ups without a band!!!  I’ve also broken the 100# mark for Cleans!  Mind you, they don’t look perfect, but I’ve done it!!  Even if only 1 time, my 1 rep max back squat is 205#!!!!

What are your next health and fitness goals?

Now that I’ve finally started going to a chiropractor to fix alignment issues (that I’ve ignored my entire adult life), I’m hoping to increase weight in my Cleans. With my shoulder issues, I’m not able to get under the bar on lifts. I’m working on correcting this so I can move properly. FGF has shown me that my health is dependent on more than just working out. I need to look at the big picture and take care of myself outside of the gym too.  By fixing problems with my body, I’ll be able to make gains in my lifts, get faster with my runs, and correct technique, which will help me with my goals of lifting heavier!

Favorite workout song?

Thunder Struck!!!!! As Ashley says, when AC/DC comes on, I kick it up a notch and find a higher gear! (I honestly don’t know where I find the extra energy, but it comes from somewhere!)

Favorite exercise at FGF is? Least favorite?

I LOVE it when I look at the next day’s Grind and see Back Squats, and/or Deadlifts!!!  Those are days that I would rearrange anything to make it to class because I love them so much!  Wall Balls are my worst nightmare!!  On the days that I see those are in the next day’s Grind, I know I HAVE to go, because there’s NO WAY I’m letting an exercise defeat me!

When the Grind is kicking my butt, I’m thinking…

If I just finish this, that will mean I’m pretty badass!!!

My favorite post workout meal:

Eggs, sweet potato, veggies and avocado! yummmm

Do you have a funny Farmgirlfit story, or favorite memory?

My mom {whom I work out with everyday} stops her work out to get her camera and take pictures of me if I’m hitting a PR!

I’m proud…

Of my daughter for getting up early 2 mornings a week and working out with me.

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

I love how each coach has their own way of encouraging us to keep going when we might feel like we’re dying and need to stop! Also, watching my co-FGF gals pushing themselves to get another round in, add another plate, or get one more run in before time is up is what keeps me amped to try harder each day.  I go every day, because I feel good after getting a good sweat on, but I also hope that I can encourage even 1 woman to push past her own doubt and keep moving!

How has the rest of your life been influenced/impacted by Farmgirlfit?

Since becoming a member, my confidence has grown tremendously! I not only feel physically stronger, but mentally stronger! When I find myself thinking “I can’t do that,” I remind myself that I’m Farmgirlfit, and I can get through ANYTHING!

FGF has also given me the inner strength to cut loose and have fun no matter what someone might think! In January I'm turning 40, my cousin is 4 days younger than me. We've decided to go to NYC to celebrate our birthdays! I thought it would be fun to dress up in our workout gear, with a tutu and take pictures in Central Park. Like I said, I feel like I can do anything now! 😁

When you're not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

When I’m not at the gym or work, I love going for walks/hikes with my family. I LOVE being in warm weather!

My favorite holiday and why:

Not a favorite holiday, but I do LOVE the holiday “season” – Halloween through Christmas. I love all the lights and yard decorations. Also, the changing fall colors!

My trademark dance move:

If I start “dancing” it means it’s time to cut me off because I’ve had too many drinks!! 💃 🥂

Guilty pleasure:

Ice Cream! 🍨🍦  When I’m being good, I have a “clean” version with frozen bananas!

My happy place is:

Home! I love just hanging out at home with my kids and dogs. Preferably finding a new clean dessert recipe!

As a kid I dreamt I would grow up to be:

A mom, which I am, AND I’m actually a two time surrogate for 2 separate families.

Any advice for new members or your fellow farmgirls?

Don’t feel like you have to keep up with the gal working out next to you. Don’t compare yourself to anyone, and don’t belittle what accomplishments you have made!!!
