“I'm all-around healthier, definitely stronger, and I'm even running faster!” Jessy, a long time runner, joined us about a year ago, looking to add strength training to her routine. She now has her sights set on PR-ing the Windermere Half Marathon in May. If you’d like to join Jessy for Windermere, or any of the Negative Split races this 2019 season, use code = RUNWITHJESSY for a little something off the registration price.

Tell us about your fitness journey. How did you come to Farmgirlfit?

I've been a runner for a long time, but that's all I ever did. Just run. About a year ago I ran a race with quite a few hills and it became glaringly obvious I had neglected strength training for too long! A few days later I texted a friend to ask her about FGF, since I knew she had been going for a while. Next thing I knew, I was showing up at a 5:30 am! I've been going ever since.

If you could tell your Farmgirlfit story in 100 words or fewer, how would it read?

FGF had always intrigued me, I loved the idea of an all female gym, but I was too intimidated to try it out. I didn't think I was fit enough, or strong enough to go, I thought I'd stand out and feel uncomfortable. When I showed up that first morning, every single person there introduced themselves to me, and I quickly realized it's a place full of just normal people, ranging all ages and skill levels. Now I know that I could go to any class and fit in, even if I don't know a single person!

What has been your greatest fitness/performance accomplishment so far?

While I've hit some great PR's, I think the thing I'm most proud of is doing things that scare me. And doing them again, and again. I mean, I've been going nearly a year and box jumps still scare me! Yet they keep putting them in The GrindTM... 😉

What are your next health and fitness goals?

My next goal is a new PR at the Windermere Half Marathon in May! And I'd also like to be able to do a pull-up someday!

When the Grind is kicking my butt, I’m thinking…

“You've run 13 miles, you can do 5 more minutes of this!”

Favorite exercise at FGF is? Least favorite?

Favorite: snatches  Least: plate pushes

My favorite thing about Farmgirlfit is:

The coaches and community. It makes all the difference knowing there are people there to cheer you and hold you accountable. And coaches who will do the same, and also push you when they know you can do more.

Do you have a funny Farmgirlfit story, or favorite memory?

The first time I tried an 18" box jump, I stumbled and missed. I tried it again, and stumbled. I tried it a third time and stumbled, but this time I dramatically threw myself on the ground and said "I'm done!". I soon realized that wasn’t a great idea when most of the class stopped their workout to rush over to see if I was ok! I then had to explain to everyone that I was fine...just overly dramatic 🙄😂

How has the rest of your life been influenced/impacted by Farmgirlfit?

I'm all-around healthier, definitely stronger, and I'm even running faster!

When you’re not pumping iron at FGF, what does the rest of your life look like?

I'm a stay at home mom of 4, and I homeschool my youngest 3.

My favorite post workout meal:

It's usually something reasonable with lots of protein and carbs. Ideally, it'd be pizza though.

Guilty pleasure:

Peanut Butter M&M's

My happy place is:

Curled up in bed with a cup of coffee

My favorite holiday and why:

Thanksgiving. Because food.

As a kid I dreamt I would grow up to be:

A mom #nailedit

Who/what inspires you to be fit?

My kids. My 4 and 8 year old girls especially tend to do whatever I do, so keeping up a healthy lifestyle is something I want them to see.

Any advice for new members or your fellow Farmgirls?

Just go. It'll hurt, you'll be uncomfortable, but it's so worth it.
